This book is a practical guide for bands seeking coverage on music blogs like EarToTheGround Music. The book provides tips and information on music public relations and media from the front lines of an active indie music blog. Our site covers folk, roots, and indie rock daily, so we get approximately fifty submissions per day. With an acceptance rate around eight percent, we realize that a lot of people are walking away feeling a sense of rejection, but not always understanding why that's the case. This book helps songwriters, bands, and music PR professionals learn more about the work of a music blog behind the scenes and how we make our coverage decisions. If you are active in the music industry, are trying to promote music, or are looking to take the next step with your music career, this book is for you.

The Five Most Common Mistakes by Bands We Reject on EarToTheGround Music edition by Greg Jones Arts Photography eBooks

The best books take things that we "know" and package the ideas neatly into actionable concepts. If you're in a band and trying to make it big, when you submit a song to a blog, you know in your heart of hearts when it's a bad fit. But you don't necessarily have words for it.

Greg's book takes those gut feelings and puts them into words. If you read this book and take action to correct these (fairly easy to fix) mistakes, your odds of getting reviewed on a blog are much higher. Those reviews are often the first step to being discovered and being able to make a living doing what you love: making music.

While this is written from the perspective of a folk and indie rock blog, it's really applicable to anyone making music. Greg's sense of humor shines through and, along with many concrete examples, takes the sting out of the content. Well worth the hour or so it takes to read!

The Five Most Common Mistakes by Bands We Reject on EarToTheGround Music edition by Greg Jones Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

As a music blogger and artist myself, I found that this book hit the nail right on the head with the common struggles both sides face. Though Greg Jones is drawing from his personal experience as a music critic of mainly folk, roots, and indie rock, musicians outside those genres will learn about the inner workings of a music blog, even if they don't fit with this author's preferred sounds.

While Greg Jones is basing this book around his own blog, Ear To The Ground, he never once comes off as self-centered, instead delivering his message in a down-to-earth style with occasional lines that made me laugh out loud.

I consider this e-book a must-read for any artist looking for publicity in the blogosphere, even if they don't fit the criteria for Ear To The Ground.
The author presents his 5 ideas within the first few pages and I must admit I thought “well I already know these things” it’s common sense right? But as the author continues and goes into depth on each of the 5 ideas, there was a lot of interesting insights that can only come from someone who has been on the frontlines of a thriving music review website for years. A short and concise work, well worth it.
