La Lengua Boricua is an excellent book for anyone who is boricua and already speaks Spanish, who is studying Spanish and speaks it at a high intermediate/advanced level and is looking to enhance their knowledge of colloquial expressions and words in Puerto Rico, or like me - grew up in Florida, away from Puerto Rico. I speak Spanish, but would love to improve my understanding of Spanish to be able to speak with family even better.There are some unique aspects about this book:
-It is written how the language is spoken, not grammatically correct. This is a nice feature as this book carries a ton of slang.
-The author includes words from la calle (the street), common daily expressions used in Puerto Rico, vulgar words, and even language influenced from modern Puerto Rican music
-The author at times also gives the background of a word or expression
The book is written entirely in Spanish, so as mentioned before, a good knowledge of the language is recommended in order to benefit most. In comparison to Speaking Boricua by Jared Romey, I find this book to be even more thorough in some aspects. Expressions not found in Speaking Boricua are in this book, such as "a la pata, bendito, a la mala, sin mas regodeos." However, other common words like mahones, zangano are not.
I love this book. It's excellent. I highly recommend it.

I love it
Este libro es de los mejores que he leido y ni siquiera es un libro de cuentos, ni de fantasia, drama, suspenso...nada de eso. Es simplemente un diccionario a lo CALLE!!!! Me encanta.
Very funny in a lot of it's contents, but being so anal about grammar, I was disappointed on the numerous errors and type-o's. Maybe because it was a low budget production (just my idea, I really don't know). Being deployed in Afghanistan it was entertaining.

Este libro esta bueno tiene muchas palabras que conozco pero tambien tiene otras que no conozco. De todas maneras es muy divertido leerlo porque tambien contiene el significado de nuestras palabras obscenas jejejee.
Es un libro que nos hace recordar (a los Boricuas) nuestras abuelas, las que utilizaban frases que sólo ellas entendían y si eres como yo (que tienes 21 y hablas como un viejo de 80), las frases te acordarán tu diario vivir. Excelente para personas de otras nacionalidades que escuchan constantemente el argot Puertorriqueño y no lo entienden éste es su mapa al idioma Boricua.
